Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton, Candice Burgen and Mary Steenburgen star in the rom-com that will try to give Deadpool a run for its money on May 18.
Paramount Pictures' romantic comedy BOOK CLUB seemingly appeared on the release schedule out of the blue earlier this year, and it's surprising that a moive starring Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton, Candice Burgen and Mary Steenburgen could be made and kept quiet for so long. Even so, Paramount just released a new trailer for the May 18 release, which you can watch below.
Book Club is directed by Bill Holderman from a script he co-wrote with Erin Simms, and it looks like a movie that could offer solid counter-programing to that weekend's Deadpool 2, as it will appeal more to older women who might not be interested in the Merc with a Mouth.
From the trailer, we can see that the movie actually is about a book club of older women who read E.L. James' Fifty Shades of Grey, which makes them start rethinking and talking more about sex and romance, as they start rediscovering their love lives.
Book Club co-stars Craig T. Nelson, Andy Garcia and Don Johnson, and the official synopsis for the film is:
Diane (Diane Keaton) is recently widowed after 40 years of marriage. Vivian (Jane Fonda) enjoys her men with no strings attached. Sharon (Candice Bergen) is still working through a decades-old divorce. Carol’s (Mary Steenburgen) marriage is in a slump after 35 years.Four lifelong friends’ lives are turned upside down to hilarious ends when their book club tackles the infamousFifty Shades of Grey. From discovering new romance to rekindling old flames, they inspire each other to make their next chapter the best chapter.
Book Club opens on May 18, and you can watch the new trailer below.
