This Meets That

THE NEW WORLD meets LAST OF THE MOHICANS

Genres

Biopic, Drama, Adventure

Why To Read

As the figure at the center of all stories about the Pilgrims and the First Thanksgiving, but whose own life has never been explored, Squanto is a truly fantastic subject for a biopic, and this script does not disappoint. Impeccably researched and packed with historical detail, this script becomes a true epic of the most cinematic scale, with enormous set pieces, larger than life characters, and complex themes. Squanto's journey is gripping and memorable, with plenty of twists and turns and a globetrotting path which only emphasizes the ambitious nature of the story and the nuanced depiction of the headstrong yet na've protagonist.

Biography

Christopher Ryan Yeazel is a writer and illustrator from Littleton, Colorado. Having worked on several film and television projects in various capacities over the years he moved to Los Angeles to pursue screenwriting full time. His script 'The Savage' was recently named the Grand Prize winner in the inaugural Scriptshadow Screenplay Tournament

Why To Read

A woman is kidnapped and tortured in an attempt to have her confess to the killing of a young woman, even though she may not have committed the crime.

Biography

Born in Illinois but California raised, Aaron Sala is currently finishing up his senior year at Carleton College, where he is a cinema and media studies major. He's been writing screenplays and directing short films since high school. His screenplays have been tacitly acknowledged by a few competitions, and the Emmy's Drama Screenwriting Internship almost picked him up once. When he's not writing, he consumes far more TV and movies than he probably should, and if his mother knew how many horror films he watched, she'd probably never let him back into the house. Someone told him he was funny once, and he's been pretending they were right ever since.

THAT 70S SHOW meets BREAKING BAD

Genres

Comedy, Drama

Why To Read

Like so many of the best sitcoms before it, this pilot finds its humor in a fantastic setting packed with wild characters and the potential for even wilder stories. The video rental store in the 1980s not only allows us to indulge our 80s nostalgia, but brings in an absurd ensemble of strange characters to play with. On top of that, this pilot adds in a mysterious criminal backstory for its protagonist, which helps both enhance and elevate this series into the kind of layered comedy any network would love to have.

Biography

Born and raised in England, I emigrated to California in 1989 to meet the love of my life. The next two decades or so were spent in corporate America primarily in the art of persuasion - advertising. My various managerial roles included extensive writing and editing of content on a wide range of topics as well as authoring hundreds of websites and marketing campaigns. For additional details on my career including personal references, please see my Linked In profile: LinkedIn.com/in/adamcbeal My proudest writing accomplishment was persuading my American pen pal to become my wife in 1989. Many years later we still pen the occasional note to each other whilst caring for our two children and menagerie of pets. I currently run a home based e-bay store in Orange County and RENTAL is my first sitcom script. Inspired by hundreds of trips to that Aladdin's Cave of the 80's and 90's - the video store. Growing up in a gray and often grim concrete jungle, the local video store was our dream factory.

Why To Read

More than anything else, this script is one thing: hilarious. The premise is wild and intriguing at the same time, and the writer absolutely accomplishes their lofty goals by telling the story in a way that is constantly amusing. We go along with the insanity of this movie because the masterful maintenance of an offbeat tone backs it up. It's never scared to go 'too far,' and the dialogue is zippy and fresh. Nothing ever lets up in the script as the action, comedy, and misadventures keep plowing forward until you reach the end.

Adam Draves is a former development exec at Indian Paintbrush and has worked for The Gersh Agency and The Kennedy-Marshall Company. He has transitioned into a post-industry career that Paul should be able to explain more clearly involving cyber security, but sadly cannot. He lives in the Boston Area with his wife and two boys.

Why To Read

Sometimes there's nothing better than watching terrible people do terrible things in the name of comedy. Wonderfully diving into a pool filled with cynicism, selfishness, and manipulation, this cleverly drawn comedy not only offers some of the most creative use of insults we've ever read, but it does so via a set of surprisingly complex, yet hilariously biting leads. Deliciously navigating that fine line between apathetic and asshole, this series takes a page from shows like Veep or Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia and offers up a world where wit, intelligence, and sharp dialogue are on full display regardless of how likeable the characters. At its core, this hilariously addicting premise and skillfully crafted series will not only delve into the worlds of celebrity culture and millennial stagnation, but it will do so in such a way that fans will scream out for more.
